Qualifications

  • Must be 16-21 at Diocesan Convention (April 25-26, 2008)
  • Baptized Christian
  • Member in good standing (regular attendant) of a parish in the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Western Michigan
  • Agree to attend Deanery meetings and any other convention information sessions if possible
    

 

 

Job Description
  • Be a representative of young people in the church ( This consists of, but is not limited to)
  • Speaking to the young people in your parish and deanery to see how they feel about any issues up for
    discussion and vote
  • Voting your own conscience
  • Being open to the work of the Holy Spirit in your own thoughts and the work of the body of Convention
  • Be an example of young people in our church ( This consists of, but is not limited to)
  • Dressing appropriately (business casual)
  • Behaving appropriately
  • Following all rules and norms of behavior decided by the Youth Delegates and Diocese
  • Be interested in and willing to take part in the legislative process of the Episcopal Diocese of Western
    Michigan ( This consists of, but is not limited to)
  • Voting for resolutions and canon changes
  • Speaking to other delegates from the Diocese about Convention’s business (either formally during business sessions or
    informally).
  • Listening to the debate on the floor and the opinion of others
      
Options Available

Deanery Delegate: Each deanery must choose one delegate and one alternate.

  • All names must be submitted to the Gennie Callard by January 31, 2008 (so they can receive all pre-convention mailings).
  • Please make your decisions in your deanery meetings before this date. If this is not possible, contact Gennie Callard.

At large Delegate: There are five delegates and five alternates that represent the diocese as a whole.

  • If you are interested, please send in a brief biography along with your date of birth and name of parish to Gennie Callard.
 
 

At Convention

  • Delegates’ fees will be paid for by the diocesan youth ministry budget.Alternates must be paid for by the deaneries, parishes or individuals. Financial assistance through the Diocese is available upon request.
  • Delegates and alternates will be under the supervision of the Youth Ministry department of the Diocese.  They stay in rooms assigned by the Diocese and sit at the Youth Delegate table on Convention floor.
