The Episcopal Church recognizes all baptized with water and in the
name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as members of the One,
Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Those whose baptisms have
been registered in the Episcopal Church are considered baptized
members. Upon reaching 16 years of age, baptized members are
considered adult members.

And in many ways, each one of us, of course, is expected to be an icon, an image of that which is invisible, an image of God.

Confirmation

Are you considering being Confirmed into the Episcopal Church?  Excellent!  First, know that you are already a full member with your baptism.  Congratulation!

If you want to be Confirmed, the first thing you need to do is speak to the rector (or main clergy person) in your church.  If you don't have one at the moment, speak to the senior warden. This person will either director you tothe person who can help you, or he or she will guide you on your way.

You can click here and go to our Diocesan webpage on Confirmation for more information.  If you don't have a church, or someone at your church that you can speak with, please click here to e-mail Gennie Callard.

"What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like."
~ St. Augustine of Hippo

Ordination

What do you want to be when you grow up? There are many jobs available in the church, many of which you do not have to be ordained for.

Have you thought of being ordained?  This means becoming a deacon, priest or bishop.

The first thing you need to do is to get an undergraduate "bachelor's" degree.  It doesn't always matter what the degree is in, but you must have one to be considered for the priesthood.

The decision to be ordained isn't made by you alone.  As all big decisions need to be made, this one is made in community.  This means that you meet with a group of people who help you decide.  Your calling also have to be approved by many others in the church.

Discernment is sorting out the voice of God from all the other voices that call to us.  It is learning to pay attention to the direction of the Holy Spirit.  Discernment is not only for those thinking about a call to ordained ministry, but is for all people who desire clarity about God's call in their daily lives.   We all have the opportunity to hear where God is calling us.

God our Father, you see your children growing up an unsteady and confusing world:  Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals.  Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start.  Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen

~Book of Common Prayer
