SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 from 2-4 PM
at CHARLOTTE ASSEMBLY OF GOD

Peace Counseling Center of Charlotte, Michigan is sponsoring a free workshop designed for parents and adults on Sunday, September 24 from 2-4 PM at the CHARLOTTE ASSEMBLY OF GOD Church (1100 E. Clinton Trail/M-50, located just off I-69, exit 60/turn east, across from Meijers).

STEVE STOFFLET, Assistant to the Bishop for Communications and Technology for the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan, has developed this presentation with the assistance of materials from the iSAFE Parent Program.  “This program will provide parents with a solid foundation of information regarding safe internet habits.” said Stofflet. “This will encourage them to become resources to, and advocates for, their children regarding internet access.”

The Peace Counseling Center strives to provide affordable counseling for Eaton County families that also values the importance of a family’s faith life.

“Parents are becoming more aware of online predators, says Pastor Todd Bruning of Peace Lutheran Church.  “Recent media coverage and public service billboards have helped us notice that. But we don’t always realize that the same peers, the same bullies who walked our school hallways growing up, can now bully our kids online as well.  We need to know how online chat rooms not only make our children vulnerable, but also why they are becoming so vital to healthy peer relations as well.  We learn more about new technology, not to increase our anxiety as parents, but so that we can better walk beside our children”

Printed materials and online resources will be made available at the event, as well as access to law enforcement officials and counselors for any questions that might arise. Advance registration is requested, to ensure a proper amount of materials are created ahead of time.
