RESOLUTION OF THE 134th ANNUAL CONVENTION OF
THE DIOCESE OF WESTERN MICHIGAN
APRIL 25 — 26 2008
Subject: The Task Force for the Elimination of Racism
Originator: Resolutions Committee

Resolved that this 134th Convention of the Diocese of Western Michigan in response to Bishop Robert Gepert’s Convention Address embraces the call to establish an “Elimination of Racism Task Force” in our Diocese for the purpose of eradicating racism in our congregations and diocesan organizations.

Resolved that the “Elimination of Racism Task Force” will be co-chaired by one person of color and one white person, and be composed of three teams of four people for three regions of our diocese (north, mid-diocese, and south).

Be it further resolved that the Task Force will use the “Eliminating Racism” curriculum from the Diocese of Michigan for training and programming in our Diocese.

As it reads in General Convention resolution 2000-B049 "the lay and ordained leadership of the Episcopal Church, including all ordained persons, professional staff, and those elected or appointed to positions of leadership on committees, commissions, agencies, and boards be required to take anti-racism training and receive certification of such training."
